White barbecue sauce, is not the color that springs to mind when you think of barbecue sauce. If you ask most people what they think a BBQ sauce they'd usually describe a thick reddish brown tomato based sauce. However in a part of the U.S.A. a white sauce is often served in place of the more common dark sauce. This rare sauce is practically unknown except the state that is originates from and is often prefixed with name that of that state, so very often you’ll see this sauce described as Alabama White Sauce.
Alabama as a whole is a bit of a broad description as it’s quite rare outside of North Alabama while in South Alabama it might not even appear on the menu.
Use this recipe for white meats such as chicken and pork, and fish. It's also good on salads and burgers.
· 12 fl oz (350ml) mayonnaise
· 1 fl oz (30ml) lemon juice
· 2 fl oz (60ml) white wine vinegar
· 1 tbsp coarsely ground fresh black pepper
· 1 tsp salt
· 1 tsp white sugar
· 2 garlic cloves, minced
· 2 tsp prepared horseradish sauce
Whisk of the ingredients together until mixed well. Store for up to one week in a refrigerator.
If you want to try a white sauce with your barbecue cooking you have the option to make it yourself or buy it. Choose whichever option suits you at the time. Sometimes it’s a good idea to buy a quality sauce to gauge your homemade sauce against.
